Avon Lake remained undefeated (7-0) in GCHSHL Blue North Division play by beating Twinsburg High School 7-1 Sunday night. All 20 players contributed to the victory, including 9 that factored into the scoring. For the second consecutive game freshman Murphy Mohar scored the first goal of the game. It came on the power play with assists going to Nick Ospelt and Connor Koncelik. Mohar now has 11 goals and 20 points on the season, and is one of eleven Shoremen who have double digit point totals. Early in the second period freshman Adam Kelly had a nifty redirect off a point shot from defenseman Colin Reynolds, That goal held up to be the first game-winning-goal of Kelly’s high school career. Koncelik then scored his team leading 24th goal of the season, unassisted on the power play. Junior assistant captain Tim Lubertozzi scored two consecutive goals. He now has 8 goals on the season; as many as he had in all of the 16-17 season. Ospelt and Tommy Kacmarcik were credited with assists. Kacmarcik broke through the 30 point plateau and now has 31 on the season. Koncelik added a short-handed goal from Kacmarcik, before Patrick Graney scored, also surpassing 30 points in 20 games. Fellow freshmen Luke Farthing and Murphy Mohar combined on some tic-tac-toe passing to set up Graney for an easy tap in to close out the scoring. Goaltender Cameron Stepka was strong again in net for Avon Lake, including an outstanding breakaway save on Twinsburg’s most talented player. For the game she stooped 18 of 19 shots. During the two league games this weekend she only surrendered 3 goals and had a .923 SV %.

The Shoremen are now 16-5 overall on the season. They return to the ice on Friday January 12th in the first round of the SWC Tournament when they take on Westlake High School at 3:30pm. All tournament games will be played at the North Olmsted Rink through January 15th..
