The Shoremen kicked off Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League competition against the team that eliminated them from the Baron Cup playoffs last season, CVCA. The result tonight was much different as Avon Lake scored twice in the first minute of play and cruised to a 10-0 victory. Joey Kleinhenz scored just 9 seconds into the game, and it held up to be the game winning goal. Senior captain Patrick Graney got the assist on the Kleinhenz goal and scored his first of the season just 22 seconds later. Connor Koncelik registered an assist on the goal; his first of three on the night. He also added two goals to bring his team- leading point total to 18 in just 6 games. The talented freshman class contributed to the victory both defensively and offensively. Luke Farthing had two goals (one on the power-play) and Murphy Mohar also scored twice. The other goals were scored by assistant captain Tim Lubertozzi, and sophomore Nick Ospelt. Graney and Jared Aslaksen both finished with 3 assists, followed by Ospelt, Tommy Kacmarcik and Devin Elliott with one each. Junior defenseman Hunter Hall led the team in hits and also chipped in with an assist.
Goaltender Cameron Stepka earned her first shutout of the season by stopping all 15 CVCA shots. Avon Lake improved to 5-1 on the season, and 1-0 in league play. The Shoremen have a gap in their schedule and will not return to game action until Friday December 8th.
