Nordonia High School
Avon Lake High School
A night intended to honor the 5 senior Shoremen hockey players turned into a 10-0 thumping of the Nordonia Knights, creating memories and milestones along the way. After the ceremony that honored Dom Barilla, Liam Manion, Ben McComas, Corey McDevitt, and Keegan Sullivan, the teams skated to a 0-0 tie after one period. The floodgates opened in the second period when the emotional Shoremen took matters into their own hands and scored 8 unanswered goals. It was a total team effort and complete dominance at both ends of the ice by Avon Lake. Jared Aslaksen led the offensive charge; collecting 5 goals and eclipsing an amazing 40 goals on the season. McDevitt reached the 10 goal mark on the year when he buried one from in close. Super sophomore Patrick Graney, who never disappoints, reached 25 goals in only his first year of varsity hockey. Barilla continued his torrid pace with two more goals from his “office” in front of the opposition net, and is one shy of 20 goals on the season. Junior assistant captain Alex Kelly scored the other goal. Assists on the evening were credited to Aslaksen (3), McDeviit (3), Barilla (3), Kelly (2), Tim Lubertozzi (2), Dylan Sammons and Ian Elias.
Lockdown defense led by Kelly, Joey Kleinhenz, Trevor White and Hunter Hall has only allowed a total of 14 goals in 14 divisional games. Goalie Keegan Sullivan turned aside 16 shots and got the win for the Shoremen. Sullivan collected his 6th shutout of the season, after earning only two in the previous three seasons. His season record stands at 15-3, collecting over 300 saves which is good for a .90 save percentage. The Shoremen won their 19th game of the season and will try to earn 20 when the play their final regular season game of the season at Garfield Heights.
