On a windy evening in Avon Lake, the Shoremen cruised to a 6-1 victory over SWC foe Midview on Senior Night.
After a heartfelt pregame ceremony celebrating the seniors and their parents, the Shoremen wasted no time establishing control of the game. Avon Lake generated a number of pristine chances early, though Midview held strong through the stellar play of their goalie and several wasted opportunities by the Shoremen.
Avon Lake finally broke through about halfway through the first half as senior Nick Daggett scored from an assist by junior Cam Salco to put the Shoremen in front. The assist was Salco’s 4th on the season while Daggett now has a team-leading 9 goals.
Just a few minutes later the Shoremen would add to their lead after senior Charlie Yungvirt’s perfectly placed through ball was met by junior Andrew Jacobson and finished, making it 2-0. This was Yungvirt’s 4th assist and Jacobson’s 5th goal on the year.
In the second half, it was more of the same as the Shoremen got on the board early, with sophomores Josh Lawniczak and Spencer Chippi combining on a cross and finish to make it 3-0. The goal was the first assist for Lawniczak and first goal for Chippi.
Senior Austin Baraona, who had been involved with several goal scoring opportunities in the game, then put the Shoremen up 4-0 with an unassisted finish, for his first career goal.
Not to be outdone, fellow senior Aidan Flinn took his chance and buried a shot just inside the far left post for his first goal of the year, making it 5-0 Avon Lake.
Midview would salvage a goal with about 20 minutes left off a free kick that bounced in the box and somehow squirted past senior goalie Philip Jones, making it 5-1.
Not long after Avon Lake put the final nail in the coffin as senior Jack Lawniczak burst through the Middie defense and slammed a shot past the sprawling Midview keeer to give us our final scoreline of 6-1. The goal puts his season tally at 5.
Tonight marked the regular season finale for seniors Austin Baraona, Carter Chippi, Nick Daggett, Aidan Flinn, Matt Furrer, Philip Jones, Jack Lawniczak and Charlie Yungvirt.
