You could tell from the first whistle of the game that the Shoremen where ready to play. They controlled the pace and dominated possession.
The scoring was opened up for the Shoremen by senior Charlie Yungvirt from a perfectly place pass from senior Jack Lawniczak. Yungvirt received the pass, beat the defender and slotted the ball passed the diving Willoughby South keeper to open the scoring.
The dominating play of the Shoremen continued. They moved the ball quickly around the pitch to maintain possession. The second goal scored in the first half was by junior Andrew Jacobson on a corner kick. After the cross from Jack Lawniczak, senior Austin Baraona passed it to Jacobson who slotted it into the back of the net.
The third goal that was scored in the first half was on another corner kick that the Shoremen earned from their high pressure on the Willoughby South defense. Senior Jack Lawniczak crossed a perfect ball into the box where Andrew Jacobson rose above everyone else to head into the back of the net. This was Jacobson second goal of the match and his third of the year. This also was senior Jack Lawniczak second assist on the night. Lawniczak leads the Shoremen with 7 assists on the year.
At halftime the score was 3-0 in favor of the Shoremen.
Defensively Avon Lake was solid. They pressured every ball in the Willoughby South half, and would not let Willoughby South maintain possession.
The back 4 on the Shoremen did a very good job of stopping any balls that Willoughby South
would send over the top. The second half was much like the first half with Avon Lake controlling the game and possession. The Shoremen earned their third shutout of the year with play from sophomore goalkeeper Stephen Jones in the first half and senior goalkeeper Philip Jones in the second half.
The Shoremen created chances in the second half put could not finish them In the back of the net. The final score of the game was 3-0 in favor of the Shoremen.
Avon Lake Boys record improved to 5-1-3.
Coach Klepek was asked what he thought about the game. He was quoted saying ” that this was a complete team win. Every player on the varsity squad contributed to that game from front to back. I am proud of the boys on the way they played after our first loss last game”.
The JV boys got another victory 4-1. It was a very physical game, but the JV boys where up for the task.
The JV Shoremen improve to 6-1-1 on the year.
Next up for the Shoremen is Bay High School on Tuesday at Bay. Game times are 5 pm and 7 pm.
