The Shoremen played their final regular season game tonight when they took on Lakewood High School in a non-league game. Avon Lake prevailed 4-1, and in the process, tied the all-time record for wins in a season with 22. Jared Aslaksen got the Shoremen started when he scored a power play goal with assists going to Patrick Graney and Tim Lubertozzi. Freshman Justin Share gave the Shoremen a 2-0 lead with his third goal of the season and the first game-winning-goal of his high school career. Nick Ospelt and Graney earned the assists. After Lakewood closed the gap to 2-1 in the second period, Avon Lake scored two unanswered third period goals. Graney registered his third point of the night on his 19th goal of the season. Junior Joey Kleinhenz assisted on the play. Brian Walasinski then hit the 15 goal plateau on a beautiful tip in goal from Colin Reynolds and Ospelt. Goaltender Cameron Stepka turned aside 17 Ranger shots to earn her 11th victory of the season.
The Shoremen are now 22-3-1 on the season and enter the Baron Cup lll playoffs on a six game winning streak. Playoffs commence Monday February 6th at the Brooklyn (Coyne) Recreation Center. Avon Lake takes on Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy at 4:30pm
