Avon Lake High School
Olmsted Falls High School
During the second round of the SWC Tournament the Avon Lake winning streak came to a halt in a hard fought battle against GCHSHL white division opponent Olmsted Falls. The final score was 4-1, with the Bulldogs scoring an empty net goal late in the game. Olmsted Falls got off to a quick start scoring just 22 seconds into the game, but the Shoremen made some adjustments and made a game of it. Although the score was 3-0 after two periods Avon Lake never quit and dominated the third period in an intense and entertaining game. The Shoremen were finally able to break through when Jared Aslaksen scored with 8 minutes left in the game, The goal was a result of hard work by Aslaksen, as well as Brian Walasinski and Hunter Hall, who were both credited with assists. Aslaksen has now surpassed the 50 point plateau on the season. Unfortunately it was too little too late for the Shoremen despite a great effort that all the players can be proud of and learn from.
Junior Cameron Stepka was particularly strong and resilient in net against a speedy Olmsted Falls team that played a strong game. Stepka turned aside 23 shots in the loss, but maintained an impressive season record at 8-2-1.
The Shoremen return to the ice on January 17th when they take on their rivals across the tracks, Avon, in a non-league game. The puck will drop at 8:35pm at the Rocky River Rink. Next Blue North league action is Friday January 20th when the Shoremen travel to the Mentor Rink to take on West Geauga at 9:00pm.
