Game Recap

After a slightly late start due to a lightning delay during the JV game, the Avon Lake Shoremen boys soccer team cruised to a comfortable 5-0 victory away over Cleveland Heights.

The Shoremen got off to a decent start, almost immediately controlling possession and setting the tempo. They finally broke through the Heights defense about 8 minutes in with a goal by junior Cam Salco, his first of the year, off an excellently weighted through ball from senior Jack Lawniczak.

Lawniczak continued his stellar distribution with another assist, this time to junior Edison Lemanowicz, who picked out the corner for his second goal of the year.

Avon Lake had chances but could not find the finishing touch for the remainder of the first half, and went into the break ahead 2-0.

It was more of the same from the Shoremen in the second half, as they continued applying pressure, consistently pinning the Tigers in their own half and generating opportunities. Hard work from senior Charlie Yungvirt on a breakaway earned a penalty kick, which Jack Lawniczak coolly placed to the right side of the net for his second goal of the season.

Avon Lake made it 4-0 after sophomore Drew DelGiudice made a strong run into the box and unleashed a shot that the goalie could only parry away, right into the path of Salco, who cashed in for his second of the evening.

The icing on the cake came in the final minute of the contest when senior Nick Daggett got in one on one and rifled in the final tally of the evening, his first of the year, to cap off a 5-0 victory.

The Shoremen continue their early season road trip with a game at SWC foe North Olmsted on Wednesday. JV play at 5, Varsity at 7.
